I feel that I learned a lot during those weeks, it was actually quite challenging for me. I see this as a huge plus because the only way you truly learn and get better at something is when you put yourself out of your comfort zone.
I always wanted to take one of Bobby Chiu's classes, because I really admire him as an Artist. I chose Painting Creatures because I am not a creature painter. I mostly paint portraits, but wanted to grow and further my abilities.
The class is split into 9 lessons, you get to work with one of your ideas from the thumbnail phase to a finished illustration. Each class (if you chose to pay for the critiqued class) you summit an assignment and Bobby will send you back a video with critiques. He paints over your illustration and explains why he is making the choices he is making. It's pretty cool.
In each lecture you get a little bit of something new, how to paint hair for creatures (straight or curly), scales, eyes, coloring and lighting, etc.
I found that even though the price initially seems high, it's worth it. I learned a lot from the notes and critiques I got from the videos. I wish I had more time to work on my piece, the class caught me in the middle of getting ready to move to another country and I didn't get to spend as much time on it as I probably would have liked to.
The class gets a big thumbs up from me, I can't wait to try another one. I have my eyes set on:
Designing with Color and Light with Nathan Fowkes (which sells out super quickly)
One of the Gesture Drawings class
Digital Painting with Bobbi Chiu
